John Fogerty – Long As I Can See the Light
John Fogerty was the brains and voice of Creedence Clearwater Revival, if not the heart and some of the personal foibles that have bedevilled him are evident in his music if one looks closely enough. Fogerty was a driven perfectionist; both he and his brother Tom survived an alcoholic father, after their teacher mother left him and raised 5 boys on her own. A notoriously abstemious and ambitious musician, Fogerty came to prominence when most of his peers were experimenting wildly with the dominant drug culture of the late ‘60s. Fogerty was scathing of the Grateful Dead, who were on before Creedence at Woodstock, “They were snockered (sic) out of their minds! The Grateful Dead put half a million people to sleep and I had to go out and try to wake them up again.”
